Life doesn’t seem to play out the way we’d like it to at times. In recent days I’ve had many conversations with individuals who are struggling in many ways. People who are feeling lonely and forgotten, set aside and abandoned. Life circumstances were different for each person, but whether the issue was financial, relational or personal, each person was feeling in some way forgotten by God.
In the midst of life’s circumstances one thing I know for sure is that we are not abandoned or forgotten. And, we do need to be reminded of these things. Listen to the description of God written by a man who often felt abandoned by God and wrote about his longing to remember.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, (The Lord God is my caretaker)
I shall not be in want. (He is my provider)
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, (He knows what my soul needs.)
he leads me beside quiet waters, (He is my leader.)
3 he restores my soul. (He is my restoration)
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake. (He is my guide, who takes me the good way)
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [a]
I will fear no evil, for you are with me; (He is an ever with, constant presence that does not abandon)
your rod (He is my protection)
and your staff, (He is my sure footing and makes me stable)
they comfort me. (He is my comfort)
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies. (In the very presence of evil and difficulty in life, He blesses me)
You anoint my head with oil; (He is my health)
my cup overflows. (He is my portion)
6 Surely goodness (He is good)
and love will follow me (He is love)
all the days of my life, (Always)
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever. (I share in His inheritance and have been adopted into His family.)
Take a deep breath and soak into the reality of the words you just read. What did you need to be reminded of today?
What scriptures or truths do you cling to when you need to be reminded of the character of God?
