I’ve come a long way from the girl who believed that my value and lovability was contingent upon my obedience, ability to perform, being neat and clean and of course beautiful. I know that I am loved for being, period. And I seek to love others the same.
It is difficult. A lot stands in the way. Believe it or not, much of what we learn about love isn’t love at all. Much of how love is expressed has very little to do with real love. So much has been twisted. But, as I write this last blog in this series I have come to know that love is much greater than human understanding and that I must continue to pursue it. I must continue to seek love. I must continue to study the life of Jesus so that I can get the most clear, uncluttered picture of Jesus possible. I must continue to love.
I must love people. I must desire for them the very best. I must desire for their good more than their comfort. I must love who they are right now, because they are. I must love first. I must love Jesus and respond to Him and encourage others in the same path.
I’ve learned that, “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[d] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Breathe it in and give it out! Let the world know that you are loved, by loving!
What have you learned or thought of love in the past few days?
