The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. John 13:2-5
The meal was under way. I had given my son everything. All things had been placed under his power. He knows my way is generous, even to those who I know will never believe and to those who spit at the very sound of my name. He knows that sacrifice is a beautiful expression of love.
Imagine you were at the table as the scene unfolds. He takes his outer robe off and gets on his hands and knees and washes the dirt, filth and sewage from the long day’s walk off the feet of those who for years had followed him. He was their teacher. He was their leader and yet He touched the filth and washed each one and made them clean.
My son, lives in me, and my power was shown that day as he encountered filth and made it clean. It is in my son that all will be made clean. It is by his power, power which I’ve placed all things under, that all men and women everywhere are able to be washed and made clean.
You, my child, often believe that there are some parts of you, that cannot be cleansed by my gracious, generous love. My son is the exact representation of me and my way and he came to every man at the table knelt down and washed away their filth. This is the same generous love that I give you every day. Believe that it is my desire that you be clean, that you be made whole. Believe that I have created a way for you that is not found in your performance, but found in the work of my son, my beloved son. Trust that he will do the work and believe that you too are the recipient of lavish generosity.
Pray
I pray that today you will know the tender love of Jesus.
I pray that you will bring to him the secret shame you carry.
I pray that you will know the powerful cleansing of Jesus.
I pray that you will believe that you have been made whole.
I pray that you will believe that the lavish love of Jesus is for you.
I pray that you will extend this same generous love to those around you, as you are rooted in the generous love of Jesus.

What is a job or chore that is hated by your family, co-workers, or roommate? Do this chore as an expression of extravagant love, expecting nothing in return, not even a thank you. Pray for those you are serving as you accomplish this task. Pray that they will know and accept the lavish, generous, love of Jesus and be transformed by it!
